What sizes of tags are available?
Tags are generally specified by size. Standard tags are twice as long as they are wide. The basic sizes are:
#1 2 ¾” X 1 3/8”
#2 3 ¼” X 1 5/8”
#3 3 ¾” X 1 7/8”
#4 4 ¼” X 2 1/8”
#5 4 ¾” X 2 3/8”
#6 5 ¼” X 2 5/8”
#7 5 ¾” X 2 7/8”
#8 6 ¼” X 3 1/8” (the most popular size)
#9 6 ¾” X 3 3/8”
#10 7 ¼” X 3 5/8”
Of course, at Futek does not restrict you to standard sizes. On small quantities it may be more cost-effective to select a standard size, but you should always feel that you can have the "right-size" for your tags.
What types of tags exist?
Plain (blank) tags are available in all common sizes and materials.
Printed tags - Special tag presses are designed to print, punch, patch, add metal eyelets, number, and die cut in one pass. They will print excellent line copy and small logos, but are not designed for close register, fine screens, large reverses, etc. Futek makes these features available, however, through a two-step process. We can print your tag flexographically, then add many of the tag features noted above on a tag press. This method offers you very high printing quality on materials that would not ordinarily be available for tags.
Manifold tags – If you need more than one copy of the information on a tag, a manifold tag may be the answer. Futek offers manifold tags with up to four parts. Carbonless and carbon-interleaved manifold tags are available.
Manifold tags generally have a tag ply with shorter plies on top. The top plies are usually 3/4" shorter than the tag, but this is not required. Tell us what you want to do and we will help you design a manifold tag solution to meet your needs.
Do tags have any special features?
Most “tags,” in the normal sense, have two clipped corners and a punch hole with a reinforcement patch. In fact, two clipped corners are considered "regular corners." A "regular hole" is 3/16", 7/32" or 1/4", and can vary depending on the press the tag is being manufactured on. If you need a specific size hole, for a specific reason, tell us what you need and why. Neither of us wants a “regular hole” that does not meet your needs.
Several other features are common. Metal eyelets can be inserted into the patch hole to reinforce it. Numbering is also common, as are perforations.
